Descendants of Rafael Arias Castillo and Bartola Chaves Vargas |
Rafael Arias Castillo was born around 1843 and his wife, Bartola Chaves Vargas, was born around 1845 in the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica. They became the first settlers in an area of the province that was southwest of the city of Alajuela and west of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. From this union, descended hundreds that would form a large part of the population of La Guacima de Alajuela.

The first child born to Rafael and Bartola was Ismael in 1870. He would marry twice, and have 26 children. I will go into detail in a future post his story and all of his children. Ismael died at the age of 65 in 1935.

The second and third children that were born to Rafael and Bartola were twins. Not much is known about Pablo. It is believed he died very young. Hermelinda married Celedonio Morera Araya and had 4 children:

Hermelinda died at the age of 40 in 1914.

The fourth child born was Eloisa Marcelina Arias Chaves in 1877. She married Gabriel Vargas and had 9 children:

The sixth child that was born was Felicitas Arias Chaves. She married twice. Her first husband was Trinidad Alvarez Castillo. They had no children from this marriage. Her second husband was Espiritu Santo Cambronero Barrantes. They had 2 children:
